What to Do After Your First (and Every) Airsoft Game

ANAREUS guide - tips & tricks

You’ve finished your first airsoft game, taken off your vest, and now you’re wondering: “What’s next?” What you do right after the game has a huge impact on how long your gun, batteries, and gear will last. Many issues players face after a few months come from skipping basic post-game care. Let’s go through a simple but proven routine you should follow after every airsoft game.

Take Care of Your Gun First

Your gun is the most expensive and sensitive part of your loadout. Always start here.

Remove the magazine and check the chamber

  • Take off the sling to handle the gun comfortably.
  • Remove the magazine.
  • Check that no BB is left in the chamber (some hop-up units can retain one).
  • Fire a dry shot in a safe direction to be sure.

This is important for both safety and the internal mechanics.

Disconnect the battery (immediately)

Once you’re sure the gun is empty:

  • disconnect the battery,
  • don’t leave it plugged in “just for a moment”.

On guns with MOSFETs or electronic trigger units, this prevents unnecessary power draw and potential errors.

Release the spring (if your gun supports it)

Some guns allow you to release spring tension by holding the trigger or using a specific mode. If your gun has this feature, always use it after the game. Leaving the spring compressed long-term shortens its lifespan.

Turn off optics and electronics

A small detail that’s often forgotten:

  • turn off your red dot,
  • turn off flashlight or laser,
  • double-check that nothing is left powered on.

You’ll save yourself dead batteries before the next game.

Proper Battery Care (Especially Li-Po)

Batteries deserve special attention.

What to do with a Li-Po battery after the game

  • If the battery is heavily discharged, don’t store it empty.
  • Charge it once you get home.
  • Ideally, store it at around 80% charge, though fully charged is acceptable short-term.

Safe storage

  • Store batteries in a protective Li-Po bag,
  • ideally inside a metal container (box, ammo can, pot).

This isn’t paranoia – Li-Po batteries demand respect.

Magazines: Small Things That Matter

Electric magazines

  • Remove all BBs.
  • Springs left under constant tension lose strength over time.
  • This is especially important for mid-cap magazines.

Gas magazines (GBB pistols)

  • Remove BBs.
  • Check if there is any gas left.
  • If empty, add a small amount of gas.

Gas pressure keeps the seals lubricated and prevents them from drying out.

Water, Sweat, and Dirt: Don’t Lock It Away Wet

Hydration packs and bottles

  • Empty any remaining water.
  • Rinse if needed.
  • Leave them open to dry.

This prevents odors and mold.

Clothing and gear

  • If you sweat a lot, don’t throw your gear straight into the closet.
  • Let everything air out and dry properly.
  • Wash when needed, according to material.

Clean, dry gear lasts longer and is much nicer to use next time.

Barrel Cleaning: The Foundation of Accuracy

Every gun comes with a cleaning rod for a reason.

Basic cleaning without disassembly

  • Set the hop-up to minimum.
  • Attach a dry cloth or paper towel to the rod.
  • Run it through the barrel several times.

This is enough for regular maintenance.Tohle stačí jako běžná údržba.

Deep cleaning (when accuracy drops)

  • Remove the hop-up unit from the barrel.
  • Use isopropyl alcohol to degrease.
  • Apply a very small amount of silicone oil.
  • Finish by wiping the barrel completely dry.

Almost no oil should remain inside.

How often should you clean the barrel?

  • Active players: at least once per month,
  • Immediately if you notice a loss of accuracy.

Common Mistakes Players Make

  • Leaving the battery connected.
  • Storing magazines loaded with BBs.
  • Putting wet gear straight into storage.
  • Never cleaning the barrel.
  • Storing gas magazines completely empty.

Summary

What you do right after the game determines how long your gun and gear will last. It’s not complicated maintenance – just a few minutes of proper habits. Gun, battery, magazines, gear. Take care of them after every game and your next airsoft session will be smoother, safer, and more enjoyable. And most importantly… always look tactical 😎
