Mounting systems on airsoft guns: a guide

Choosing the right mounting system should be essential for any airsoft player who wants to mount various accessories such as optics, flashlights, or grips on their weapon. Here are the most commonly used mounting systems:

Picatinny rail

This is the standard and most widely used system, which is characterised by parallel grooves and allows for easy and solid installation. It's also important to know if you have a KeyMod or M-LOK system, as you can attach these rails specifically to this system.

Weaver rail

Very similar to the Picatinny rail, but with narrower grooves. Not all accessories are compatible with both systems. And as with Picatinny - important again to know if you have KeyMod or M-LOK.

M-LOK

It is a modern mounting system developed by Magpul. Its main advantage is the possibility of direct attachment of accessories to the oval holes in the forearm, which minimizes the need for additional rails. M-LOK is popular due to its lightness, strength and modularity. Its design allows for quick and easy attachment or removal of accessories, giving airsoft players a high level of customization of their weapons to suit their current needs.

KeyMod

It is another popular mounting system that was developed in collaboration between VLTOR and Noveske Rifleworks. The system features a unique design with keyhole shaped holes that allow accessories to be attached directly to the forearm without the need for rails. This system is valued for its lightness, strength and ease of installation. KeyMod allows users to configure their weapons quickly and easily, giving them more freedom to personalize their gear.

When selecting a mounting system for an airsoft gun, it is important to understand that modern systems like M-LOK and KeyMod offer the ability to mount accessories directly, but also allow the attachment of traditional Picatinny or Weaver rails for wider compatibility with accessories. This flexibility means you can customize your gun to your exact needs, whether you prefer a quick reconfiguration or need a fixed mount for specific accessories. The choice between M-LOK and KeyMod should reflect your style of play and the type of accessories you plan to use.
