Bipod

Bipod is a two-leg stabilisation support mounted on rifles, allowing the front of the weapon to rest on the ground or another surface. It consists of two extendable legs that significantly increase shooting accuracy, reduce shooter fatigue, and help stabilise the weapon when aiming at longer distances. Bipods are used on real firearms as well as in airsoft—primarily on sniper rifles and DMR rifles, and sometimes on light machine guns. A bipod is therefore an essential stabilisation tool for long and precise aiming, especially for snipers and DMR shooters. It enables more comfortable and accurate firing, reduces fatigue, and improves shot consistency. Modern bipods such as Harris or Atlas are military and airsoft standards thanks to their durability, adjustability, and easy mounting. Quality bipods for both airsoft and real firearms can be found in our e-shop.

Why is a bipod important for sniper and DMR rifles?

  • Stability: Eliminates micro-movements from the hands and increases accuracy during long aiming periods.
  • Reduced fatigue: The shooter does not have to hold the full weight of the weapon.
  • Shot consistency: Fewer deviations → tighter shot groups.
  • Use of cover: Allows prone shooting or firing from behind obstacles.

In airsoft, a bipod is especially helpful for snipers shooting at longer distances, where stability is crucial.

Common types of bipods

  • Harris Bipod: A classic among bipods. Steel construction, telescopic legs, and optional swivel for levelling on uneven terrain.
  • Modern tactical bipods: Used in military forces (e.g., Atlas Bipods). Multiple joints, precise height adjustments, excellent stability.
  • Lightweight aluminium bipods: Ideal for airsoft—low weight and easy adjustment.

Bipod mounting systems

  • RIS / Picatinny: The most common system—bipod attaches directly to the lower rail.
  • M-LOK: A modern system; bipods mount via an M-LOK adapter.
  • KeyMod: Older but still used standard.
  • Direct-to-stock mount: Rifles like the M700 / VSR-10 often use a stud mount under the handguard.

For airsoft snipers, the most common options are RIS bipods and stud-mounted bipods for VSR-type rifles.

Characteristics of a quality bipod

  • Strength and rigidity – must not wobble or flex.
  • Adjustable height – ideally telescopic.
  • Swivel or tilt function – for levelling the rifle.
  • Non-slip feet – rubber or metal spikes.
  • Material: Aluminium, steel, or dural—strong yet lightweight.

Difference between monopod, bipod, and tripod

  • Monopod:
    - One support leg.
    - Ideal as rear support for a sniper rifle.
    - Fast to use but offers less stability.

  • Bipod:
    - Two legs, high stability, the most common choice.
    - Ideal for sniper and DMR rifles.

  • Tripod:
    - Three legs, maximum stability.
    - Used for machine guns or optical devices (spotting scopes, cameras).
