CORUND

CORUND is a durable synthetic material used in the SATAC (Specna Arms Tactical) gear line. It is a nylon fabric developed to offer high mechanical strength, low weight, and an affordable price. CORUND is designed for tactical use with an emphasis on an excellent price / performance ratio, without the need to rely on more expensive premium materials. CORUND is therefore a nylon material designed as an affordable alternative to CORDURA nylon. In the 500D version, it offers very good durability, low weight, and a competitive price. SATAC gear by Specna Arms thus represents a reliable choice for airsoft and tactical use within armed services (where IR camouflage or official material strength certification is not required). SATAC pouches made from CORUND material are in stock on our e-shop.

Is CORUND nylon?

Yes. CORUND is a nylon fabric (synthetic polyamide fiber), similar to Cordura. Nylon is popular in tactical gear thanks to:

  • high tensile strength,
  • excellent abrasion resistance,
  • low water absorption,
  • long service life even in harsh conditions.

CORUND vs. CORDURA – main differences

Cordura is a registered trademark of premium nylon fabrics, while CORUND is an alternative nylon material optimized for affordable tactical gear.

  • CORUND:
    – very good durability for airsoft and tactical use,
    – lower manufacturing costs,
    – excellent price / performance ratio,
    – ideal for hobby use, MilSim, and training.

  • CORDURA:
    – premium material with certified durability,
    – higher price,
    – commonly used in military contracts and professional gear.

In practice, this means that CORUND offers more than sufficient durability for airsoft and everyday tactical use without unnecessarily increasing the price of the gear.

What does 500D mean?

500D (Denier) refers to the fiber thickness and weight used to produce the fabric:

  • 500D:
    – lighter and more flexible material,
    – sufficiently durable for pouches, plate carriers, and backpacks,
    – lower overall weight of the gear.

Today, 500D is considered an ideal balance between durability and comfort.

What would 1000D mean?

  • 1000D:
    – significantly thicker and heavier fibers,
    – extreme abrasion resistance,
    – higher weight and stiffness,
    – today mainly used for specific reinforced areas rather than entire gear.

While 1000D used to be the standard, modern gear is more often made from 500D due to its lower weight and better ergonomics.
