Hardshell

Hardshell is a type of technical clothing that provides high protection against adverse weather conditions, primarily against rain, wind, and snow. It is a fully waterproof layer with a membrane that also allows a certain degree of breathability to wick moisture away from the body. Hardshell jackets and pants are designed to offer maximum resistance to external elements and are suitable for demanding conditions where staying dry and protected from the elements is the main priority.

How does hardshell differ from softshell?

While the hardshell provides full protection against the weather, softshell clothing is designed for greater comfort and mobility in less extreme conditions. The softshell layer is more breathable and flexible, but it is not fully waterproof. It provides protection against light rain and wind, but its main advantage is higher comfort and freedom of movement, making it suitable for activities where dynamics and protection against milder weather conditions are important.
