Monopod

Monopod is a single-leg support device used to stabilise a weapon or optic. Shooters and photographers use it to reduce movement, increase stability, and maintain better control over the aiming direction. It is smaller and lighter than a bipod or tripod and provides quick, simple support—especially for the rear end of a rifle. A monopod is therefore a lightweight and fast rear support ideal for precision long-range shooting, commonly used on sniper rifles as rear stabilisation. For maximum stability, it is paired with a bipod. A tripod offers the highest stability but is bulkier. In airsoft, monopods are mainly used on precision sniper rifles like the Silverback SRS and on zeroing benches for easy and accurate optic adjustment.

Monopod on sniper rifles

For snipers, the monopod is most commonly used as the rear stock support. While the front of the rifle is stabilised by a bipod, the monopod under the rear section allows precise fine-tuning of sight height.

  • Micro-height adjustments – perfect for fine-tuning before the shot.
  • Rear-end stability – minimises wobble caused by breathing.
  • Repeatable shots – the rifle stays in the exact same position.
  • Ideal for long-range shooting – every fraction of a mil matters.

This is why they are commonly found on real rifles such as M24, M40, L96, AXMC, T-5000, as well as airsoft sniper rifles like the SRS.

Monopod on shooting / zeroing benches

Shooting benches and zeroing stands use a monopod as a rear support for precise vertical adjustment when zeroing optics or testing accuracy.

  • Allows quick height changes during zeroing.
  • Helps maintain a consistent rifle position.
  • Lets the shooter focus solely on trigger control and breathing.

Monopods are considered standard equipment in professional shooting stations.

Difference between monopod, bipod, and tripod

  • Monopod – 1 leg
+ ultra-light, compact, quick to deploy
+ excellent for the rear end of a rifle
− least stable of the three

  • Bipod – 2 legs
+ highly stable, ideal for snipers
+ mounted on the front of the rifle
− less flexible than a monopod

  • Tripod – 3 legs
    + maximum stability
+ suitable for heavy weapons, machine guns, spotting scopes, or thermal optics
− heaviest and largest option, slower to set up
