Open Bolt

Open Bolt is one of the mechanisms used in gas blowback airsoft rifles (GBBR) and AEG EBB rifles such as TM NGRS and GBLS DAS, which mimic real firearms by moving the entire bolt backward.

How the Open Bolt System Works

In an Open Bolt system, the bolt of the rifle is in the open position when the gun is ready to fire. This means that when the trigger is pulled, the bolt moves forward, picks up a BB from the magazine, and immediately fires it. After firing the BB, the bolt returns to its original open position, ready for the next shot.

Advantages of the Open Bolt System

Authentic Look and Feel: Many players prefer Open Bolt rifles due to their authenticity and realism, which closely resemble real firearms.

Faster Response Time: The Open Bolt system can provide a quicker response time when firing.

Disadvantages of the Open Bolt System

Less Efficient Sealing: An open bolt can result in poorer sealing, leading to gas leaks and reduced firing efficiency.

More Susceptible to Dirt: The open mechanism is more exposed to dust and other debris, which can affect the rifle's reliability.

More Complex Maintenance: Due to the higher number of moving parts, maintaining the Open Bolt system can be more challenging compared to the Closed Bolt system.

The Open Bolt system is popular among players seeking a realistic airsoft experience. Despite its disadvantages, advantages such as better cooling and faster response time can outweigh them. Choosing between Open Bolt and Closed Bolt depends on each player's preferences and specific performance and maintenance requirements.
