PTFE (Polytetrafluoroethylene), also known under the trade name Teflon™, is a material with an exceptionally low coefficient of friction. Lubricants containing PTFE create a thin, low-friction film on the surface that reduces wear, protects against corrosion, and repels water and dirt. Compared to conventional lubricants, they offer a long service life and perform well at both low and high temperatures. Thanks to their chemical resistance, they are suitable for metal and certain plastic components without damaging them.
In airsoft, PTFE lubricant is primarily used to lubricate gearbox gears, bearings, spring guides, slides and bolts of GBB pistols and rifles, external guide surfaces, and moving metal mechanisms. For sealing O-rings, hop-up buckings, and other rubber components, however, silicone lubricant is generally a more suitable choice, as it provides better protection for elastomers and does not compromise their flexibility.
