PME (Premature Engagement), often also referred to as Air Nozzle PME, is an undesirable phenomenon in electric airsoft guns (AEGs) where the air nozzle does not have enough time to return to its correct forward position before the next BB is fed. This occurs primarily in guns with a very high rate of fire (RoF), a powerful motor, or an improperly matched gear setup, where the entire mechanism cycles faster than the tappet plate and its return spring can complete their movement. This can result in poor BB feeding, inconsistent muzzle velocity, double feeding, or complete misfeeds.
The solution primarily involves correctly matching and synchronizing all moving parts of the gearbox. A stronger tappet plate spring, a higher-quality tappet plate with more precise geometry, timing adjustment using a delayer chip, or reducing the RoF with a more suitable combination of gears, motor, or battery can help. In extremely high-performance builds, proper configuration of the electronic trigger unit (ETU/MOSFET), which can affect cycle speed, is also important. This phenomenon is most commonly encountered in heavily upgraded DSG or SSG builds with a high RoF, while it is relatively rare in stock AEGs.
