Tracer BBs

Tracer BBs are special airsoft BBs that have the ability to glow during flight. They contain a luminescent (phosphorescent) material which lights up briefly after being charged, allowing the shooter to visually track the BB’s trajectory. Tracer BBs are therefore glowing airsoft BBs that, once illuminated by UV light, create a visible flight path. For proper function, a tracer unit with UV LEDs is required. They are ideal for night games, CQB, and MilSim events, where they significantly improve shot awareness and the overall gameplay experience. Available on our e-shop.

What is the function of Tracer BBs?

The main purpose of tracer BBs is a visible shot trace, especially in low-light conditions or at night. Thanks to this:

  • you can see where your shots are going,
  • you can more easily adjust your aim and hop-up,
  • the overall gameplay experience is enhanced (realistic effect).

Tracer BBs are extremely popular during night games, CQB events, and night MilSim operations.

How do Tracer BBs work?

The BB itself does not glow continuously. It must first be charged by a strong UV light. After leaving the barrel, the BB then glows green or red (depending on the type) for several seconds.

What is needed to illuminate Tracer BBs?

For tracer BBs to function properly, it is necessary to use a tracer unit, which is installed at the end of the barrel:

  • Tracer unit (suppressor, magazine, hop-up chamber): contains UV LEDs that charge the BB just before the shot.
  • Power supply: usually a built-in Li-Ion or Li-Pol battery.
  • Mounting: screwed onto the barrel thread (most commonly 14 mm CCW in airsoft).

Tracer BB colors

  • Green tracer BBs: the most common, highest brightness.
  • Red tracer BBs: more realistic effect, lower brightness.
  • Blue tracer BBs: an ideal compromise.
  • Dual tracer BBs: a combination of multiple colors (require a compatible tracer unit such as the BIFROST by AceTech).

Tracer BBs and weapon compatibility

Tracer BBs can be used in virtually all types of airsoft guns:

  • AEG (electric guns),
  • HPA systems,
  • GBB and GNB guns,
  • manual sniper rifles.

The only requirement is a properly functioning tracer unit.

Advantages and disadvantages of Tracer BBs

  • Advantages: better shot awareness, quick hop-up tuning, excellent gameplay experience.
  • Disadvantages: revealing the shooter’s position, the need for a tracer unit.
