Kubotan

Kubotan is a small self-defense tool, originally developed in the 1970s in the USA by Japanese martial arts instructor Takayuki Kubota. It is a rod about 12–15 cm long, usually made of metal or hard plastic, used to enhance strikes, apply pressure on nerve points, and perform leverage techniques in self-defense. History and origin:

Kubotan was originally designed as a discreet tool for the Los Angeles police to control suspects without using lethal force.
The name comes from its creator – Kubota + the suffix “-n”.
It quickly spread to civilian self-defense because it is easy to carry and legal in many countries.

What does a kubotan look like:

Length about 12–15 cm, diameter 1.5–2 cm.
Usually equipped with a key ring, making it discreet.
Made of aluminum, hardened plastic, or steel.
Some variants have grooves or tips for stronger pressure effects.

Principles of use:

Strikes: Enhances punches by focusing force into a small area.
Pressure on nerve points: Causes pain without permanent damage.
Leverage and control techniques: Useful for restraining or breaking holds.
Confidence: Gives even beginners a simple way to defend themselves in a crisis.
