Tamiya connector is a standard electrical connector that was widely used for airsoft batteries and guns for many years. It is characterized by its plastic housing with two pins and an asymmetric shape that prevents incorrect connection. In airsoft, the Tamiya connector was one of the first mass-adopted systems for connecting batteries to guns. The Tamiya connector is available in two variants – large and small Tamiya. Its main advantage is simplicity and wide availability, but compared to T-Dean or XT60, it is less efficient due to higher electrical resistance. Today, it is mostly used with entry-level replicas and cheaper batteries, while modern guns and batteries are more often equipped with T-Dean connectors. We recommend TITAN or Gens ACE batteries from our selection.

Tamiya connector types:
- Small Tamiya (Mini/Small Tamiya): The most common type in airsoft. Used in most AEGs and smaller batteries. Typical for entry-level replicas.
- Large Tamiya: A bigger version, more common in older guns or higher-capacity batteries (NiMH). Rarely used today.
Advantages of Tamiya connectors:
- Widespread use: For many years, it was the standard for airsoft guns and batteries.
- Simplicity: Easy to connect and disconnect.
- Low cost: Affordable solution suitable for mass production.
Disadvantages compared to modern connectors:
- Higher resistance: Tamiya connectors have worse conductivity than T-Dean (Deans) or XT60.
- Lower efficiency: High current draw can cause heating and power loss.
- Fragility: The plastic housing may loosen or get damaged over time.
Comparison:
- Tamiya: Simple, cheap, but less efficient. Suitable for entry-level guns and NiMH batteries.
- T-Dean (Deans): Lower resistance, better current transfer, compact size. Recommended standard today for Li-Po batteries.
- XT60: Even more robust and reliable than T-Dean. Suitable for guns with high current draw (e.g., DSG / TSG AEGs).
